Thirty-five years, brought to one room.

Nitin Vispute is a psychologist, a consultant, and a life coach. He directs Chetna De-addiction Treatment Centre in Jalgaon. The pages below follow the work in the order it happened.

01 · Where it began

Social work

The working life began about thirty-five years ago in social work. Not in a private room. Among families and neighbourhoods, with people who often had no prepared language for what was going wrong.

That habit is still the method. A session starts with the life in front of us. A label, if one is useful, comes later.

Pathology

The path then moved through pathology. Reports, organs, and the plain fact that a life shows up in the body: sleep, appetite, a liver under strain, a tremor, a page of results that does not match the story a family is ready to tell.

Counseling here does not ignore that. When someone is unwell in body and in mind, both are named, and a physician is not replaced.

03 · Responsibility for other people

Business and management

There were years in business and in management. Payrolls, staff, and the particular tiredness of a person who is responsible for other people’s livelihoods.

Owners who come now are not treated as a special category. The pressure is familiar: a decision delayed, a temper carried home, a Sunday that is not a Sunday.

04 · Jalgaon

The de-addiction centre

Chetna De-addiction Treatment Centre grew from that path. For about fifteen years it has worked in Jalgaon with people and families living with addiction. More than a thousand people have been guided back toward ordinary life: work, sleep, and a home that can be lived in.

On 26 June 2024, in New Delhi, the centre was honoured for its rehabilitation work. Nitin Vispute and Chetana Vispute received that honour. The centre’s record also includes a Maharashtra Mahatma Gandhi de-addiction service award.

05 · Across Maharashtra

Consultant and life coach

Beside the centre, the work widened into consulting and life coaching. Travels across Maharashtra brought the same questions in different towns: health, money, marriage, and a loss of direction.

The counsel stayed practical. A mantra he has offered in public is simple enough to keep: “Today is my day.”

Psychologist

The consulting room is the work now. An hourly consultation for a single question. A full counseling session for what has lasted. Children, couples, older adults, business owners, and people living with trauma or the long tail of addiction.

In April 2024 a PhD was conferred in Bhopal by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Hindi University, for work in psychology and social work, including the study of addiction.

If you are deciding

Start with the hour. Name the real worry.

Addiction, a child, a marriage, an ageing parent, or a business that will not leave the mind: say which it is. If the family should come, say that too.

In Jalgaon, beside Jalaram Mandir, near Podar School. People from Pune, other parts of Maharashtra, and elsewhere in India come by appointment. If travel is hard, ask for a phone or video sitting.
